Lee Heerspink is a rare multi-talented musician and educator located in Hudsonville, MI.  Lee earned his Music Education degree from Hope College (in Holland, MI).  While at Hope he toured with the chamber orchestra on upright bass, began playing in his first rock band, performed weekly with a folk acoustic trio, and quickly excelled as a guitarist in the jazz band.

Jazz became such a passion that Lee continued his education at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. While completing a Masters in Jazz Performance at USF, he had the opportunity to learn from and perform with some of the area's best including: Jack Wilkins, Steve Davis, LaRue Nickelson, Richard Drexler, and Michael Ross.

After completing his Masters, Lee became very active in the West Michigan music scene. For three years he taught guitar lessons full time while playing with various cover bands, jazz combos, big bands, and praise/worship groups.

In 2010, Lee auditioned for and accepted a job playing guitar for the US Air Force Heartland of America Band in Omaha, NE.  For 4 years he served as musical director for multiple Air Force rock and top 40 bands providing high-energy, morale-boosting concerts to troops both stateside and overseas.

Lee moved to Lincoln, NE in 2014 and served as a teaching assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he completed the coursework for the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Jazz Studies. While in Lincoln, Lee directed the UNL Guitar Ensemble, intermediate jazz combos, and was hired as the guitar instructor for Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2016. Lee continued an active performance schedule in Lincoln with the UNL Jazz Orchestra, UNL Graduate Combos, and numerous freelance shows.

Lee moved back to West Michigan at the end of 2019, completed his DMA degree, and began teaching guitar lessons in the greater Hudsonville area. When Lee is not teaching or performing, he loves spending time with family, trying new restaurants, and watching “Parks and Rec” on Netflix.
